The Hickory Crawdads have canceled games scheduled for Saturday, May 9, and Sunday, May 10, following a fire inside the visiting clubhouse at LP Frans Stadium early Saturday morning.
Team officials announced the games will not be rescheduled later this season. The Crawdads also said the popular Wrestling Jersey promotion planned for Saturday has been postponed, with a new date to be announced in the future.
According to the Hickory Fire Department, crews responded around 5:27 a.m. after reports of smoke coming from the visitor’s clubhouse. Firefighters had the fire under control by 5:55 a.m.
Investigators determined the fire was caused by an electrical issue. Officials say the blaze caused heavy damage to the contents inside the clubhouse but did not spread beyond the structure. No injuries were reported.
Several Scout groups participating in Scout Night were sleeping on the field at the time of the fire. Authorities say a parent noticed smoke and heard an alarm, helping quickly evacuate the group safely.
Fans holding tickets for either canceled game can exchange them for a future Crawdads home game this season.
The Crawdads organization thanked the Hickory Fire Department, first responders, Scout groups, and fans for their cooperation and understanding during the unexpected incident.
Additional information about future homestands and rescheduled promotions is expected to be released later.
