A Mooresville man is facing multiple charges after officers reportedly observed him driving erratically Sunday night on Charlotte Highway.

According to authorities, officers on patrol around 10:45 p.m. on May 24 observed a vehicle weaving through traffic and crossing into oncoming lanes in the 1000 block of Charlotte Highway. Officers conducted a traffic stop and identified the driver as 49-year-old Thomas Ellis of Mooresville.

Officers reported observing signs of impairment and conducted field sobriety testing. Authorities said Ellis performed poorly on the tests and was subsequently arrested for Driving While Impaired.

During the arrest process, officers discovered Ellis was allegedly in possession of a firearm. Investigators later determined Ellis is a convicted felon.

In addition to the DWI charge, Ellis was also charged with Possession of a Firearm by a Convicted Felon.

Ellis was taken before a magistrate and issued a $10,000 secured bond.
