A 58-year-old minister from Statesville was found dead inside her north Charlotte home early April 6, and police say her husband now faces a murder charge.
According to the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department, officers responded just after 2 a.m. to a home on Cardington Court after receiving a call about an assault with a deadly weapon. When officers arrived, they found Tammy McCollum suffering from a gunshot wound to the head. She was pronounced dead at the scene.
McCollum served as a minister at The Well Worship Center, where church members described her as a devoted leader and beloved member of the congregation.
Investigators identified 61-year-old Eddie McCollum, Tammy McCollum’s husband, as the suspect in the case. Police said he was taken into custody at the home and later charged with first-degree murder. Court documents indicate he allegedly admitted to shooting his wife during an argument before asking for an attorney.
Family members and church leaders say the tragedy has left the community searching for answers. The investigation remains active as detectives continue gathering evidence in the case.
