The Iredell County Board of Commissioners is highlighting several important community initiatives and observances throughout the month of April.
During their April 7, 2026 meeting, commissioners approved multiple proclamations and a resolution aimed at promoting public safety, education, and family well-being across the county.
April 12th through the 18th has been designated as National Public Safety Telecommunicators Week. The observance honors 9-1-1 dispatchers and emergency communications personnel who serve as the critical first point of contact during emergencies, helping ensure the safety of both residents and first responders.
Later in the month, April 19th through the 25th, the Iredell County Public Library will celebrate National Library Week. This year’s theme, “Find Your Joy,” encourages residents to visit their local library, explore available resources, and take part in programs designed to support personal and community growth.
In addition, the Board officially recognized April as National 9-1-1 Education Month. The initiative focuses on educating the public about the proper use of the emergency system, reducing non-emergency calls, and increasing awareness about what information to provide during an emergency.
Commissioners also acknowledged April as Child Abuse Prevention Month, emphasizing the importance of community involvement in protecting children and supporting families. Throughout the month, local organizations will partner on awareness campaigns and educational efforts to help prevent abuse and neglect and promote the well-being of children across Iredell County.
The Board is encouraging all residents to take part in these initiatives and support programs that strengthen the community.
