STATESVILLE, N.C. — Iredell County Animal Services (ICAS) has recovered two additional horses that escaped from a local property on May 11, bringing the total number of recovered animals to nine out of ten, officials announced.

All nine recovered horses are now safely confined, according to ICAS.

Authorities continue searching for the remaining horse, which has not been seen since the initial escape. Animal Services personnel are actively monitoring the area, patrolling locations where the animal could potentially travel, and responding to reports from residents.

Officials are asking the public and rescue organizations not to approach, chase, or attempt to capture the horse if it is spotted. Sudden contact could frighten the animal and increase the risk of it running into roadways or other dangerous areas.

Anyone who believes they have seen the missing horse is encouraged to immediately contact Iredell County Animal Services or local law enforcement with the animal’s location.

The search remains ongoing as officials work to safely recover the final horse.
