A Sherrills Ford woman was killed in a single-vehicle crash Friday afternoon in Catawba County.
According to the North Carolina State Highway Patrol, troopers responded shortly before 3:30 p.m. on May 8 to a crash on Mount Pleasant Road near Trailwood Drive.
Investigators say a 2021 Dodge Charger was traveling along Mount Pleasant Road when it drove off the right side of the roadway and collided with a concrete culvert. The vehicle then overturned, trapping three passengers inside.
Authorities identified the victim as Mary Miller of Sherrills Ford. Miller, who was riding in the back seat, died from injuries sustained in the crash.
The driver of the vehicle, a Sherrills Ford man, was transported by EMS to an area hospital with minor injuries. A front seat passenger, an Oregon man, was also taken to the hospital with minor injuries.
Troopers say speed and impairment are not believed to have contributed to the crash. However, investigators noted that Miller was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the collision.
No charges have been filed at this time.
