A 24-year-old Charlotte man is facing serious charges after authorities say he impersonated a law enforcement officer during a crime in Statesville.
Russell Earl Bacon was arrested Tuesday night, February 24, around 11:30 p.m., and is being held at the Iredell County Detention Facility.
Among the charges filed against Bacon are felony robbery with a firearm or other dangerous weapon, attempted first-degree burglary, and impersonating a law enforcement officer or other public official. He also faces misdemeanor marijuana possession and drug paraphernalia charges.
The impersonation charge stems from allegations that Bacon falsely represented himself as a law enforcement officer during the incident. Authorities have not released additional details about how the alleged impersonation occurred.
The armed robbery charge carries a $75,000 secured bond. Bond information for the remaining charges was not immediately available.
Bacon, who lists a Charlotte address, remains in custody. He is presumed innocent unless proven guilty in court.
