DETROIT — Chrysler is recalling more than 450,000 vehicles nationwide due to improperly designed trailer tow modules that could cause trailer lights to malfunction and trailer brakes to fail, according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA).
The recall affects several recent model-year vehicles, including the 2024–2026 Jeep Wagoneer S; 2025–2026 Ram 1500, 2500, and 3500 pickup trucks; Ram 3500, 4500, and 5500 cab chassis models; and the 2026 Jeep Cherokee.
Federal safety officials say the defective trailer tow modules may prevent trailer lights from illuminating properly and could also lead to a loss of trailer braking, increasing the risk of a crash, particularly while towing.
Dealers will replace the trailer tow module free of charge. Owner notification letters are expected to be mailed beginning March 24, 2026.
In a related action, Chrysler is also recalling certain Mopar-branded trailer tow modules that may have the same defect. The NHTSA says that if these modules are installed in a vehicle, dealers will replace them at no cost. If the modules have not been installed, dealers will repurchase them from owners. Notification letters for this recall are also expected to be mailed March 24.
Chrysler operates under the corporate name FCA US, LLC. Owners with questions about the recall are encouraged to contact their dealer or check the NHTSA recall database for additional information.
