A routine traffic stop along Salisbury Highway resulted in the arrest of a Salisbury man on multiple drug charges just days before Christmas, according to authorities.
On December 23, Deputy Berrier was patrolling Salisbury Highway when he observed a dark-colored Dodge pickup truck with inoperable tag lights and an expired registration. The deputy initiated a traffic stop near 1532 Salisbury Highway and made contact with the two occupants inside the vehicle.
The driver was identified as 54-year-old Gregory David Evans. While another deputy issued Evans a warning for the traffic violations, Deputy Berrier deployed his canine partner, K-9 Enyo, to conduct an open-air sniff around the truck. K-9 Enyo alerted to the presence of narcotics.
Deputies then searched the vehicle and located approximately five grams of methamphetamine, a digital scale, and several items of drug paraphernalia. Evans stated the items belonged to him.
Evans was arrested and charged with Felony Possession of Methamphetamine, Felony Maintaining a Vehicle for a Controlled Substance, and Misdemeanor Possession of Drug Paraphernalia.
He was taken before Magistrate Hollar and received no bond on the new charges due to already being out on bond for a prior methamphetamine-related offense.
