A home was destroyed in an early morning fire Wednesday in Alexander County.

According to Coty Fox, chief of the Vashti Fire Department, the fire was reported around 5 a.m. on March 11 at a home located at 146 Skyview Hill Drive, off Linneys Mill Road.

Fire crews from the Vashti Fire Department and Hiddenite Fire Department in Alexander County responded to the scene, along with the Central School Fire Department. Although the home has a Union Grove address, it is located just inside the Alexander County line.

The fire was investigated by the North Carolina Office of the State Fire Marshal. Officials listed the cause of the fire as undetermined, though a candle is believed to have possibly sparked the blaze.

Chief Fox said one man was inside the home at the time of the fire, but he was able to escape without injury. The occupant’s name was not released.

According to records from the Alexander County Tax Department, the property is listed under the ownership of Todd S. Summers.

Officials said the fire resulted in a total loss of the home and two vehicles.
