A hoax 911 call claiming a stabbing inside a Troutman school prompted a rapid law enforcement response early Friday morning.

According to the Iredell County Sheriff's Office, Iredell County Communications received a 911 call at approximately 6:53 a.m. from a person claiming they had stabbed someone inside Troutman Elementary School and were hiding in an upstairs bathroom.

The school’s School Resource Officer immediately responded to the location inside the building while additional officers arrived to assist. Authorities conducted a thorough search of the school but found no injured person and no armed suspect.

At the time of the call, only staff members were inside the building preparing for the school day. Officials say no students had entered the school, and buses were temporarily held until officers completed their search and confirmed the campus was safe.

Investigators have since determined the call was a hoax.

Authorities say they are now following leads to identify the person or persons responsible for making the false report.

Officials say the safety of students, staff, and the community remains a top priority and credited the quick response of school staff, law enforcement, and emergency communications for ensuring the situation was handled safely.
