A longtime community leader is being recognized for an extraordinary milestone — more than five decades of shaping young lives through Scouting.
Scouting America recently hosted its Recognition Banquet for the Iredell Gemstone District, where Bill Hicks was honored for an incredible 55 years of service to local youth right here in Iredell County.
Serving the Mt. Mourne area, Hicks has guided and inspired more than 1,500 Scouts throughout his remarkable tenure. He’s been deeply involved with Fairview United Methodist Church, helping lead Pack activities and coordinate countless Camporees over the years.
Local Scouting leaders say Bill’s tireless commitment has left a lasting impact on generations of young people, instilling values of leadership, integrity, and community service.
As one fellow leader put it, “Bill Hicks has shown what it truly means to live by the Scout Oath and Law — his influence will be felt for years to come.”
The Scouting community extends heartfelt thanks to Bill Hicks for his lifelong dedication, leadership, and love for Scouting — a legacy that continues to strengthen the heart of Iredell County.
