Ron “Duck” Wyatt, a lifelong public servant and respected community leader in Iredell County, passed away on February 11. Wyatt dedicated decades of his life to serving the citizens of the county through law enforcement and local government.

Wyatt proudly served in the United States Marine Corps before beginning his career in law enforcement. He joined the Iredell County Sheriff’s Office in 1989, starting on patrol. Over the years, he rose through the ranks, serving as a Detective, Sergeant in the Detention Center, D.A.R.E. Officer, Detective Sergeant, and Patrol Lieutenant before retiring in 2008.

After retiring from the Sheriff’s Office, Wyatt continued his commitment to public service. He served as the Iredell County Register of Deeds from 2016 to 2021, where he emphasized transparency, professionalism, and public accessibility. Most recently, he served as Town Manager for the Town of Troutman, applying his leadership and experience to strengthen the community he cared deeply about.

Throughout his career, Wyatt was known for his integrity, dedication, and commitment to mentoring others. He prioritized education and professional development, ensuring his teams stayed current with best practices and new laws, while fostering an environment of support and encouragement.

Wyatt is survived by his wife, Julie, and his sons, Parker and Ethan. His contributions to Iredell County — through law enforcement, public administration, and community leadership — have left a lasting legacy. Those who knew him remember him as a compassionate leader, a devoted public servant, and a person who cared deeply about the people and communities he served.
