New numbers from the North Carolina Department of Commerce show unemployment is trending down across much of the state — including here in Iredell County.
In February 2026, Iredell County posted an unemployment rate of 3.7%, with more than 103,000 people employed and about 3,800 unemployed. That puts the county right in line with the statewide rate of 3.8%.
Across North Carolina, unemployment rates decreased in 91 counties, signaling continued strength in the job market. Only five counties saw increases, while four remained unchanged.
Statewide, the number of people working rose by nearly 40,000 in February, while unemployment dropped by more than 11,000. Over the past year, employment has also steadily increased, with fewer people out of work.
Officials note that while monthly numbers can fluctuate due to seasonal trends, the year-over-year data continues to show improvement.
The next update on North Carolina’s unemployment figures is expected in early May.
