STATESVILLE, NC — A major road improvement project is set to begin across Iredell County, with dozens of roadways scheduled for resurfacing over the next year.
The North Carolina Department of Transportation has awarded a $6.9 million contract to Maymead Inc., based in Mountain City, Tennessee. The project includes resurfacing a portion of U.S. 70 from Nabors Road to the Rowan County line, along with 36 sections of secondary roads throughout the county.
Some of the roads included in the project are:
Wiggins Road from N.C. 150 to N.C. 801
Lippard Farm Road from N.C. 90 to Island Ford Road
Dagenhart Farm Road from U.S. 70 to Mock Mill Road
Red Chimney Road from N.C. 115 to South Chipley Ford Road
Mackwood Road from N.C. 115 to the end of the maintained road
South Shady Rest Road from East Lewis Ferry Road to U.S. 70
Construction crews could begin work as early as March 30.
To minimize disruptions, the contract restricts lane closures during peak rush hour times and holidays.
The resurfacing project is expected to be completed by fall of 2027.
