A 40-year-old man died Wednesday afternoon after falling from a kayak on Lake Norman, according to the Cornelius Police Department.
Authorities say officers responded to a call for service around 3 p.m. after reports of an empty kayak in the water near Henderson Road. When first responders arrived, they located the kayak and began searching the surrounding area.
During the operation, a man was found in the lake and later pronounced dead. Officials identified him Thursday as Joshua Craig Scribben, 40. His family has been notified.
The Cornelius Fire Department assisted the police department and North Carolina Wildlife Resources Commission with the recovery effort.
Authorities noted that Scribben was not wearing a life jacket at the time of the incident.
No additional details have been released.
