RALEIGH – A Mooresville woman is celebrating a life-changing lottery win after a $2 ticket turned into a $1 million prize.

Crystal Jones of Mooresville said she enjoys playing Powerball for the chance to win big — and that chance paid off in the Feb. 9 drawing.

“I don’t mind paying a couple of dollars for a dream,” Jones said.

Jones purchased her lucky Quick Pick ticket at Fast Phil’s on Charlotte Highway in Mooresville. She matched all five white ball numbers to win the $1 million prize. The odds of matching those numbers are 1 in 11.6 million.

“I saw the numbers on the TV and I was in disbelief,” Jones recalled. “I got out of bed and just started calling everybody.”

She traveled to lottery headquarters in Raleigh on Tuesday to claim her prize. After required federal and state tax withholdings, Jones took home $720,101.

“It just feels realer and realer now,” she said as she received her check.

Jones said she plans to use the money to pay bills.
