IREDELL COUNTY, N.C. — Drivers in Iredell County are being advised to prepare for a temporary road closure as bridge maintenance work is scheduled to begin later this month.
According to the North Carolina Department of Transportation, crews will close a section of Island Ford Road near the bridge over Buffalo Shoals Creek beginning Monday, June 8.
The closure is expected to remain in place for approximately three weeks while maintenance is completed, with the roadway anticipated to reopen in late June.
During the closure, motorists will be detoured using Sharon School Road, New Sterling Road, Cotton Gin Road, and back to Island Ford Road.
Transportation officials are encouraging drivers to remain alert, avoid distractions, and follow all posted detour signs while traveling through the area.
Real-time travel updates are available through DriveNC.gov and the North Carolina Department of Transportation’s official website.
