National Weather Service has issued a Special Weather Statement for today, warning of increased fire danger in the Statesville area from 11 a.m. until 8 p.m.

Officials say very dry conditions, low humidity, and gusty winds could allow any fire that starts to spread rapidly.

A statewide burn ban remains in effect across North Carolina, making all open burning illegal.

Residents are being urged not to burn outdoors and to use extreme caution with grills, equipment, or anything that could create sparks. Fire officials are also asking people to avoid any activity that could unintentionally start a fire.

Emergency crews remain prepared to respond, but officials say preventing fires before they begin is critical to keeping the community safe.
