The City of Statesville is now under a Stage D2 Severe Drought condition, following a declaration by the North Carolina Drought Management Advisory Council. The designation is based on updated data from the U.S. Drought Monitor of North Carolina and reflects worsening drought conditions across the region.

In response, the City of Statesville has implemented stricter water use restrictions in accordance with City Code and its Water Shortage Response Plan. Officials say the measures are necessary to manage water consumption during the severe drought period.

Under the current irrigation restrictions, lawn and landscape watering is limited based on street address numbers. Residents with odd-numbered street addresses may irrigate on Tuesdays from 8 p.m. to Wednesday at 8 a.m., and Saturdays from 8 p.m. to Sunday at 8 a.m. Residents with even-numbered or unnumbered addresses may irrigate on Thursdays from 8 p.m. to Friday at 8 a.m., and Sundays from 8 p.m. to Monday at 8 a.m.

Tree and planting bed irrigation is restricted to bubble, drip, or hand irrigation methods only. Golf courses and athletic fields are required to follow an alternative watering plan approved by the director.

Several water uses are now prohibited. All residential vehicle washing is not allowed, and washing public buildings, sidewalks, and streets is prohibited except when required for safety or health compliance.

City officials are urging residents to conserve water and work together to reduce overall usage. While civil fines may be issued for violations, the city says its primary goal is voluntary cooperation and community-wide conservation.

Drought conditions will continue to be monitored, and additional voluntary or mandatory restrictions may be implemented if deemed necessary by the North Carolina Drought Management Advisory Council.
