Statesville Power Urges Customers to Conserve Energy During Extreme Heat

Statesville Public Power is asking customers to voluntarily reduce electricity usage as the region continues to experience a stretch of extreme heat driving unusually high power demand.

Officials say the utility’s wholesale power supplier is currently seeing elevated demand across the region due to prolonged high temperatures. Despite the strain on the grid, electric service remains reliable and no outages are expected at this time.

Customers are being encouraged to take simple steps to help reduce load on the system, including setting thermostats to 78°F or higher when comfortable, delaying use of major appliances until evening hours, turning off unused lights and electronics, keeping blinds and curtains closed during the day, and charging electric vehicles overnight when possible.

Utility officials say even small adjustments can make a meaningful difference in maintaining system reliability during peak demand periods.

Statesville Public Power has also provided information on its website explaining Energy Emergency Alert (EEA) levels and what they mean should regional electricity demand continue to rise.

Forecasts indicate temperatures are expected to moderate early next week, but officials say they will continue monitoring conditions closely and provide updates if anything changes.
