Stony Point Man Charged After Shots Fired in Road Rage Incident

A 24-year-old Stony Point man is facing multiple felony charges after deputies say gunfire was exchanged during a road rage incident Tuesday afternoon in Alexander County.
Austin Tyler Shuford was arrested Tuesday (February 3) by deputies with the Alexander County Sheriff’s Office. He is charged with two counts of assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill, two counts of going armed to the terror of the public, and one count of discharging a firearm into an enclosure to incite fear.
According to authorities, Alexander County 911 received a call reporting a road rage confrontation in the area of Teague Town Road and Church Road. The caller told dispatchers that multiple shots had been fired at a vehicle traveling on Church Road.
Deputies responded to the area and located the suspect vehicle on Alspaugh Dam Road shortly afterward.
Investigators said no injuries or property damage were reported as a result of the shooting.
Shuford was taken into custody and transported to the Alexander County Detention Center, where he is being held under a $400,000 secured bond.
His first appearance in District Court is scheduled for February 9.
The incident remains under investigation.
