A Taylorsville man has been sentenced to active prison time after pleading guilty to multiple felony drug, firearm, and fleeing charges tied to a 2022 police pursuit in Catawba County.
Taylorsville resident 47-year-old Marty Allen Teague entered a guilty plea Tuesday, May 5, in Catawba County Superior Court. He was sentenced to serve between seven and a half and ten years in prison.
Teague was convicted of possession of a firearm by a felon, two counts of attempted trafficking methamphetamine by transport and possession, and felony flee to elude arrest with a motor vehicle. He also admitted to being a habitual felon, which enhanced his sentence.
The Honorable Troy J. Stafford, a Superior Court judge from Union County, imposed the active sentence.
Court records show Teague’s sentence was elevated due to prior felony convictions, including breaking and entering in 2005 in Alexander County, robbery with a dangerous weapon in 2009 in Catawba County, and fleeing to elude arrest in 2020 in Alexander County.
Investigators say the case began on December 4, 2022, when Hickory Police stopped Teague for a stolen license plate. Authorities say he immediately fled, reaching high speeds, running stop signs, and driving recklessly before traveling through residential yards. His vehicle eventually became stuck, and he fled on foot.
A search of the vehicle reportedly uncovered a bag containing methamphetamine and documents bearing Teague’s name, along with a .38 Special revolver found under a seat cushion.
The case was investigated by the Hickory Police Department, with prosecution handled by Assistant District Attorney Melanie Earles and Legal Assistant Jordan Arney.
