A local business owner is speaking out after a theft incident at The Uptown Exchange, located at 109 E. Water Street in Statesville, expressing both disappointment and a firm stance against retail theft.

In a statement shared publicly, the owner said they were “deeply saddened” by the situation, emphasizing that while theft may be common in retail, it is not tolerated at their business under any circumstances.

The owner issued a warning to the two women allegedly involved, stating that both individuals have been identified. The statement noted that if the stolen items are not returned, full criminal charges will be pursued.

The business owner also thanked members of the community for their assistance in identifying the suspects and expressed appreciation to Officer Hardy with the Statesville Police Department for help provided during the incident.

No further details about the value of the stolen items or potential charges have been released at this time.
