IREDELL COUNTY, N.C. — A winter storm that moved through Iredell County over the weekend continues to impact the area on Monday, leading to widespread closures and hazardous travel conditions.

City officials in Troutman, Mooresville, and Statesville have closed all city offices today due to lingering snow and ice. All local area schools are also closed, as road conditions remain unsafe in many parts of the county.

While some main roads are passable, officials say driving conditions are still far from ideal. Many secondary and surface streets remain untreated, with snow and ice making travel difficult, particularly in residential and rural areas. Drivers are urged to stay off the roads unless travel is absolutely necessary.

The storm has also caused significant power outages across North and South Carolina. Duke Energy reports just under 35,000 customers remain without power as of Monday, with crews continuing restoration efforts amid downed trees and icy conditions.

Emergency management officials say crews are working to clear roads and restore services, but progress may be slow as cold temperatures keep ice from melting quickly.

Residents are encouraged to remain indoors when possible, check on neighbors who may need assistance, and stay informed through local media and official city and county communication channels as recovery efforts continue.
