Catawba County Man Charged in Child Sex Offense Investigation

CATAWBA COUNTY, N.C. — A Catawba County man is facing multiple felony charges following an investigation into alleged sex offenses involving a child.
According to the Catawba County Sheriff’s Office, deputies received a report on May 10 regarding allegations of a sex offense involving a child that reportedly occurred at a residence in Catawba County. The Sheriff’s Office Criminal Investigations Division Special Victims Unit launched an investigation into the allegations.
As a result of the investigation, investigators arrested 52-year-old Coy L. Scott of Newton on Friday, May 15.

Statutory Sex Offense With a Child
First Degree Sexual Exploitation of a Minor
Authorities say Scott was given no bond and was scheduled to make his first appearance in Catawba County District Court on Monday, May 18.
“Crimes against children will not be tolerated in Catawba County. Those who prey on minors will be pursued and held accountable,” Sheriff Don Brown said in a statement.
