Cleveland Man Charged in Domestic Assault Case

CLEVELAND, N.C. — A Cleveland man is being held without bond following a domestic assault investigation that left a woman with serious injuries, according to the Cleveland Police Department.
Police say Eric Wilford Morrison was arrested early Sunday morning, January 18, 2026, after officers responded to a reported assault in progress in the area of 700 East Main Street around 6:20 a.m.
Upon arrival, officers located a female victim who had sustained serious bodily injuries. Due to the severity of those injuries, emergency medical assistance was immediately requested.
During the investigation, officers observed a vehicle matching the suspect description traveling westbound on Main Street. A traffic stop was conducted, and the driver was detained and identified as Morrison.
Police say Morrison was taken into custody and charged with:
Assault with serious bodily injury
Assault on a female
Misdemeanor crime of domestic violence
Morrison was transported to the magistrate’s office, where he was placed on a 48-hour hold without bond, as required by law in domestic violence cases.
Authorities emphasized that all individuals are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
The Cleveland Police Department says the investigation remains ongoing and reaffirmed its commitment to ensuring the safety and security of the community.
