Stanly County, N.C. — A large house fire in Stanly County has left two people hospitalized and destroyed a residence tied to NASCAR driver Denny Hamlin’s family.
The blaze broke out Sunday evening around 6:19 p.m. on Blacksnake Road, northeast of Stanley. Fire crews arriving at the scene found flames already spreading through much of the home, prompting assistance from multiple fire departments across the region.
Firefighters battled the fire for more than two hours. The rural location and a lack of nearby fire hydrants required water to be shuttled in by tanker trucks, complicating firefighting efforts. Ultimately, the structure was declared a total loss as crews brought the blaze under control later that night.
Two individuals were taken to a hospital for treatment, reportedly for possible smoke inhalation. Authorities have not released their identities or confirmed whether they were the homeowners, though both were outside the residence when crews arrived.
The property is tied to Hamlin and has long been associated with his parents, Dennis and Mary Lou Hamlin. Emergency crews were able to salvage some items from the garage, including vehicles and racing memorabilia, before the fire consumed much of the home.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation, and no further details have been released. The incident has drawn concern from the NASCAR community, coming just days after another regional tragedy struck the sport’s extended family.
Officials say updates will be provided as more information becomes available.
