Iredell County, N.C. — Visitor restrictions put in place during the height of respiratory illness season have now been lifted at the area’s main hospital.
Iredell Health System announced that temporary visitor limits at Iredell Memorial Hospital ended Friday, February 27th at 9 a.m.
The restrictions were originally implemented on December 29th, when flu, COVID-19, and RSV cases were widespread across the region. At the time, guests were asked not to bring children under the age of 14 to visit patients, in an effort to reduce the spread of contagious respiratory illnesses and better protect patients, visitors, and hospital staff.
Health officials say conditions have since improved enough to safely resume normal visitation policies.
Even with the change, the health system continues to urge anyone who is feeling sick to avoid visiting patients unless they are seeking medical care themselves.
Pam Gill, Director of Infection Prevention for Iredell Health System, thanked the community for its cooperation, saying the precautions helped safeguard both patients and staff during a period of increased illness.
Hospital leaders say they will continue monitoring illness trends and will adjust policies again if necessary.
