Investigators are working to determine what caused a deadly house fire in Davie County that claimed the life of one person yesterday.

According to authorities, the fire broke out Tuesday morning at a home along U.S. Highway 601. Fire crews responded to the scene and discovered one victim inside the residence. The individual was pronounced dead at the scene.

The identity of the victim has not yet been released as officials continue their investigation.

Multiple emergency agencies responded to the scene, including the Davie County Fire Marshal’s Office, the Davie County Sheriff’s Office, and several local fire departments. Firefighters from the Cooleemee, Jerusalem, Franklin, Woodleaf, and Scotch-Irish fire departments assisted with the response.

Additional emergency crews from Davie County EMS and rescue squads from both Davie and neighboring Rowan County also responded to the incident.

Officials say the cause of the fire remains under investigation, and investigators have not yet indicated whether foul play is suspected. Fire officials are working alongside the North Carolina Office of the State Fire Marshal to determine how the fire started.
