Possible Winter Weather This Weekend in Iredell County; Forecast Remains Uncertain

STATESVILLE, N.C. — Residents in Iredell County are being urged to stay alert as forecasters track a developing weather system that could bring winter weather to the region this weekend. While confidence is growing that cold air will be in place, exactly how much snow or ice may fall — or if it falls at all — remains uncertain.

Forecast trends show temperatures dropping into the 20s and lower 30s from Friday night through Sunday, with overnight lows potentially falling into the teens. If precipitation moves into the area during that time, conditions would support snow or a wintry mix.

Weather Models Show Different Outcomes

Computer forecast models are not yet in agreement on how the system will evolve. Some projections suggest moisture will move into the region while temperatures remain cold enough for accumulating snow. Other scenarios shift the storm track just far enough away to limit impacts to light precipitation or a brief mix of rain, sleet, or snow.

Meteorologists say small changes in the system’s path or timing could significantly alter the outcome — meaning Iredell County could see anything from flurries to more impactful winter weather.

What’s More Certain

Cold air is expected to be firmly in place heading into the weekend. Even light precipitation could create slick travel conditions, particularly on bridges, overpasses, and untreated roads. With temperatures expected to remain below freezing at night, any snow or ice that does develop could linger into early next week.

What’s Still Unclear

How much precipitation will fall, when it will arrive, and what form it will take are still being refined. Forecasters stress that confidence in specific totals remains low at this time, but the overall pattern supports at least the potential for winter weather.

Residents are encouraged to monitor updated forecasts and prepare for the possibility of changing conditions, especially if traveling this weekend.
