A man has been arrested following a reported breaking and entering at a business in Coolemee early Wednesday morning.
According to the Davie County Sheriff's Office, deputies responded around 7:31 a.m. on March 11 to a business located at 7784 NC Highway 801 South after a 911 caller reported a break-in.
Authorities say the suspect allegedly used a key to gain entry into the business. Once inside, investigators say the individual caused extensive damage to the interior, removed security cameras, and stole money and other items.
Deputies and crime scene investigators processed the scene and developed a suspect during the investigation. Warrants were later obtained for Michael Thomas Dalton, 51, of Mocksville.
Deputies later located Dalton’s truck, where several firearms were seen in plain view on the back seat along with plastic buckets filled with change.
While deputies were waiting for a search warrant for the vehicle, investigators say Dalton fled from a nearby residence on foot. He was quickly apprehended without further incident.
Dalton was taken to the Davie County Detention Center and is being held under a $10,000 secured bond. He has been charged with felony larceny and felony larceny of a firearm.
Investigators say the case remains under investigation by the Criminal Investigations Division, and additional charges are pending.
