As first reported by WAME News, detectives with the Iredell County Sheriff’s Office arrested James Ray Bost of 1022 Perth Road near Troutman on Tuesday, May 5, 2026, following a lengthy investigation into multiple reports of vehicles being damaged along Perth Road.

According to Sheriff Darren Campbell, deputies began receiving reports in February 2026 from motorists who said their vehicles had been struck by what appeared to be pellets while traveling in the 1000 block of Perth Road.

As the investigation continued, detectives interviewed numerous residents in the area and developed James Bost as a suspect. Investigators then launched an extensive surveillance operation using digital surveillance equipment to monitor the area.

On Saturday, May 2, the Sheriff’s Office received another complaint from a motorist who reported their vehicle had been struck while driving through the same area. Detectives reviewed hours of surveillance footage and data, ultimately determining that pellet rounds had allegedly been fired from Bost’s driveway at 1022 Perth Road.

Based on the evidence collected, detectives obtained arrest warrants for Bost along with a search warrant for the residence. On Tuesday, detectives and members of the Aggressive Criminal Enforcement (ACE) Team executed the warrant and took Bost into custody without incident.

During the search, investigators recovered a BB rifle, additional pellet and BB-style weapons, and numerous pellets believed to be connected to the incidents.

James Ray Bost has been charged with eight counts of misdemeanor assault with a deadly weapon and eight counts of misdemeanor injury to personal property. Magistrate T. Thompson issued Bost a $50,000 secured bond.

Sheriff Campbell praised the work of investigators and the cooperation of local residents throughout the investigation.

“The detectives involved in this case put in a lot of hard work and time to conduct surveillance and utilized the surveillance tools necessary to obtain enough evidence to bring justice to those who had been victimized by Bost,” Campbell said. “I also want to thank the residents and community members who remained vigilant and continued to communicate with law enforcement throughout this investigation.”

Detectives say they are continuing to review additional incidents Bost may be connected to, and the investigation remains ongoing. Anyone with information is encouraged to contact the Iredell County Sheriff’s Office at 704-878-3180.
