MOORESVILLE, N.C. — The Town of Mooresville has moved to enhanced Stage 2 water conservation measures effective immediately in an effort to reduce nonessential water use and protect long-term water supply reliability.

Town officials say the restrictions align with surrounding municipalities that also rely on the Catawba-Wateree water system. The new measures apply to all customers served by the Town of Mooresville water system.

Under the updated restrictions, outdoor irrigation is now limited to the hours of 6 p.m. through 6 a.m. daily through May 31. Officials say the town will issue warnings to residents and businesses found watering outside the allowed times.

Beginning June 1, irrigation rules will become more restrictive, shifting to a mandatory two-day watering schedule limited to Tuesdays and Saturdays between 6 p.m. and 6 a.m. A written warning will be issued for a first violation, while fines will begin with a second offense.

The restrictions apply to in-ground irrigation systems, hose-end sprinklers, and automatic irrigation systems.

Additional prohibited activities include washing sidewalks, driveways, patios, and parking areas, washing vehicles at home, operating decorative fountains that do not support aquatic life, and filling or refilling swimming pools. Limited pool top-offs for maintenance and liner protection are still permitted.

Officials say residents may continue hand watering, drip irrigation, use of watering cans, watering newly installed landscaping during establishment periods, and irrigation supplied by private ponds. Private wells and alternate water sources are also exempt from the restrictions.

The Town of Mooresville also announced that all bulk potable water sales will be suspended beginning Friday, May 22 at 5 p.m. This includes hydrant meter use, tanker and truck filling operations, and temporary bulk fill operations.

Residents with questions or those using private water sources who need signage may contact the Town of Mooresville at 704-663-7282 or visit the town’s drought information webpage for additional details.
