MOOREESVILLE, N.C. — The burn ban within the town limits of Mooresville has officially been lifted.
Based on authority granted under Chapter 3, Section 307.1.1 of the North Carolina Fire Code, Mooresville Fire-Rescue, in coordination with the North Carolina Forestry Service, announced that the restriction prohibiting open burning within 100 feet of a structure—or anywhere inside town limits—is no longer in effect as of May 8, 2026, at 8:00 a.m.
Officials remind residents that while the ban has been lifted, certain restrictions remain in place. Under Mooresville Municipal Code Section 10-12, open burning of yard waste such as leaves, branches, and other plant material is allowed, but burning construction debris, lumber, trash, newspapers, and other non-vegetative materials remains strictly prohibited at all times.
Fire pits, including both commercial and constructed units, may now be used again. However, fire officials continue to urge residents to use caution and practice fire safety whenever burning outdoors.
