Pedestrian Killed On I-40 In Hickory

CATAWBA COUNTY, N.C. — One person was hit and killed while walking across Interstate 40 in Catawba County Thursday morning.


According to the North Carolina State Highway Patrol, a pedestrian was struck and killed this morning (February 19) on Interstate 40 in Hickory. The incident occurred shortly before 7 a.m. in the eastbound lanes near the McDonald Parkway exit (Exit 126).


Investigators say a man was attempting to cross the interstate when he was hit by a vehicle. Highway Patrol confirmed one fatality at the scene.


Authorities say the driver involved in the crash remained at the scene and is cooperating with investigators.


The incident remains under investigation.
