Police Search for Persons of Interest in Fatal Hit-and-Run

The Salisbury Police Department is asking for the public’s help in locating two individuals connected to a fatal hit-and-run crash that left one motorcyclist dead.
The collision happened on February 20, 2026, at the intersection of South Main Street and Airport Road. Investigators say a passenger vehicle struck four motorcycles before the occupants fled the scene. One motorcyclist died as a result of the crash.
Police have identified Victor Hugo Vasquez Morales as a person of interest in the case. Authorities stress that Morales is wanted for questioning only at this time.
Detectives are also searching for 29-year-old Tavita Garcia Diaz, who has been identified as one of three individuals involved in the crash. Diaz is currently wanted on unrelated warrants, including identity theft and two counts of possessing a fraudulent identification. She is also being sought in connection with the fatal collision investigation.
Anyone with information on the whereabouts of Morales or Diaz is urged to contact Salisbury Police Officer Benjamin at 704-638-2117 or submit a tip through Rowan County Crime Stoppers.
The investigation remains ongoing.
