IREDELL COUNTY, NC — The Iredell County Sheriff’s Office is warning residents about a scam involving fraudulent text messages claiming recipients owe money for traffic or toll violations.

Officials say the messages often appear highly convincing and may include official-looking documents. Victims are then instructed to make immediate payments using a link or QR code.

Authorities emphasize that this is a scam.

Law enforcement and court officials in North Carolina do not send legal notices by text message or request payments in this manner.

Residents who receive these messages are urged not to click any links or send money. Instead, they should delete the message and contact their local Clerk of Court using an official phone number if they have concerns.

The Sheriff’s Office is also encouraging the public to share this warning to help protect others in the community.
