Iredell County, N.C. — Iredell County is preparing for another round of wintry weather this weekend as lingering impacts from last weekend’s storm continue to disrupt daily life across the area.

According to the National Weather Service, snow is likely on Saturday, with cold air firmly in place throughout the day. Temperatures are expected to remain in the 20s, with snowfall developing during the morning and continuing into the afternoon. Snow accumulations of 1 to 3 inches are possible, especially on untreated roads, bridges, and elevated surfaces. As temperatures drop Saturday night, any melting snow could refreeze, creating additional icy conditions.

The latest winter system comes as the county continues to recover from last weekend’s weather, which brought snow, sleet and ice to the region. That storm left behind lingering slick spots and icy patches, particularly on secondary roads and shaded areas.

Those conditions have had a major impact on local education. Saturday marks the fourth day this week that Iredell County Area Schools have been closed, as district leaders cite unsafe travel conditions and ice still present on some school campuses. Officials say student and staff safety remains the top priority as cleanup and melting continue slowly due to persistent cold temperatures.

Families across the county have been adjusting schedules as closures stretch on, affecting classroom instruction, bus transportation and extracurricular activities. District officials continue to monitor road conditions and weather forecasts before making decisions about reopening.

Meteorologists warn that even after Saturday’s snowfall ends, below-freezing temperatures will linger, potentially prolonging hazardous conditions into the coming days. Residents are urged to use caution if traveling and to stay alert for additional updates as the winter pattern continues.
