STATESVILLE, N.C. — Fire departments across the country are recognizing Community Risk Reduction Week, running from January 19 through January 25, to emphasize the importance of preventing emergencies before they happen.

At the Statesville Fire Department, officials say Community Risk Reduction — often referred to as CRR — is more than a weeklong initiative. It is a year-round commitment focused on protecting lives, property, and neighborhoods through education, prevention, and planning.

CRR programs are designed to identify potential risks within the community and address them before they result in emergencies. These efforts include public safety education, fire prevention initiatives, emergency preparedness planning, and partnerships with community organizations.

Department leaders say CRR Week provides an opportunity to highlight how proactive safety measures can reduce hazards, strengthen neighborhoods, and help keep Statesville a safe place to live, work, and play.

Officials encourage residents to take part by reviewing home safety plans, checking smoke alarms, and staying informed about fire prevention and emergency preparedness resources available through the Statesville Fire Department.
