A late-night crash in Iredell County has claimed the life of a Statesville man, according to authorities.
The North Carolina State Highway Patrol says the accident happened around 10:45 p.m. Tuesday along Midway Road near Storm Lane. Troopers responding to the scene found that a motorcycle traveling westbound had left the roadway under unclear circumstances.
Investigators say the vehicle, identified as a 2002 Honda CBR600, veered off the left side of the road, struck a fence, and overturned. The impact ejected the rider from the motorcycle.
The operator, 32-year-old Caleb Seth Pender of Statesville, was transported to a nearby hospital but later died from his injuries.
Preliminary findings indicate that speed and impairment may have been contributing factors in the crash, though the investigation remains ongoing.
Midway Road was shut down for approximately one hour as troopers worked the scene and cleared the wreckage.
