A man wanted in connection with a deadly shooting in Chester County, South Carolina, has been taken into custody in North Carolina following a months-long search.
Authorities say the shooting occurred on Monday, June 17, 2024, at the Ramsey Grove Apartments on Flint Street in Chester County. Investigators identified Carlton Wallace Dixon, 45, as the suspect in the case. One victim was found at the scene and was pronounced dead.
Following the shooting, Dixon fled the area and had been the subject of an extensive nationwide search. Officials confirmed that Dixon was located and taken into custody Monday afternoon in Mooresville, North Carolina, with assistance from the Mooresville Police Department.
The Chester County Sheriff’s Office has obtained arrest warrants charging Dixon with murder, possession of a weapon during a violent crime, and possession of a firearm or ammunition by a person convicted of certain crimes.
Authorities say they are now working through the extradition process with the State of North Carolina to return Dixon to Chester County, South Carolina, where he is expected to face the charges related to the June 17, 2024 shooting. The investigation remains ongoing.
