NEWTON, N.C. — A suspected narcotics trafficker has been arrested following a joint investigation by the Catawba County Sheriff’s Office and multiple law enforcement agencies.

According to the Catawba County Sheriff’s Office, investigators with the Narcotics Division arrested Jonathon Marquis Myers, 44, of Claremont, on January 16, 2026. During the arrest, deputies seized a trafficking amount of cocaine along with items investigators say were consistent with narcotics distribution.

Myers is charged with trafficking cocaine by possession, trafficking cocaine by transportation, maintaining a vehicle, dwelling, or place for a controlled substance, and possession of drug paraphernalia.

Court records show Myers received a $125,000 secured bond and made his first appearance in Catawba County District Court on January 20, 2026.

The Catawba County Sheriff’s Office said the investigation was conducted with assistance from the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, the North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation, the Hickory Police Department, and the Maiden Police Department.

The investigation remains ongoing.

All charges are allegations. Myers is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in a court of law.
