The Town of Troutman has reduced its water shortage response level from Stage 3 to Stage 2 following improved drought conditions and recommendations from state drought officials.
Effective immediately, all customers served by the Town of Troutman water system will operate under Stage 2 water restrictions. The change allows residents to resume lawn and landscape irrigation during designated watering periods while several conservation measures remain in place.
Town officials emphasized that although conditions have improved, drought conditions have not been fully eliminated and water conservation remains important.
Under Stage 2 restrictions, lawn and landscape irrigation is permitted only during specific watering times based on address numbers. Tree and landscape bed irrigation may be conducted using drip irrigation, bubble irrigation, or hand watering methods.
Several restrictions remain in effect. Residential vehicle washing is still prohibited, and washing public buildings, sidewalks, and streets is not allowed except when necessary for public health or safety reasons. Athletic fields may be watered according to the schedule for even-numbered addresses.
The watering schedule under Stage 2 is as follows:
Odd-Numbered Addresses
Tuesday, 8 p.m. to Wednesday, 8 a.m.
Saturday, 8 p.m. to Sunday, 8 a.m.
Even-Numbered and Unnumbered Addresses
Thursday, 8 p.m. to Friday, 8 a.m.
Sunday, 8 p.m. to Monday, 8 a.m.
Residents are permitted to fill or refill swimming pools, and splash pads and other water features may continue operating.
Town officials noted that moving back to Stage 2 represents an improvement in drought conditions, but the area remains vulnerable to worsening weather patterns. If conditions deteriorate, Troutman could return to Stage 3 restrictions.
Officials encourage residents to continue conserving water whenever possible to help protect the community's water supply as drought recovery continues.
