Two Killed in Late-Night Crash Near Cleveland

Two people were killed and a man has been charged following a late-night crash near Cleveland in Iredell County.
The crash happened around 11:15 p.m. Friday along Amity Hill Road near the Iredell County line. Investigators say a pickup truck crossed the center line and struck a passenger vehicle head-on.
Both occupants of the passenger vehicle were pronounced dead at the scene. They have been identified as 20-year-old Fletcher Mark Daniel Harris of Catawba and 19-year-old Skylar Nichole Provenza of Statesville.


The driver of the pickup truck, 37-year-old Juan Alvarado Aguilar, was treated for minor injuries and taken into custody. Authorities say he is charged with two counts of felony death by vehicle, driving while impaired, traveling left of center, and driving with a revoked license. Bond was set at $250,000.
The crash has prompted an outpouring of grief across the community, particularly among those connected to Harris and Provenza. The North Carolina State Highway Patrol continues to investigate the circumstances surrounding the collision.
