Two Newton Men Arrested on Drug Charges Following Alexander County Traffic Stop

ALEXANDER COUNTY, N.C. — Two Newton men were arrested on multiple charges after deputies conducted a traffic stop on a suspicious vehicle in Alexander County.

According to the Alexander County Sheriff’s Office, deputies initiated the traffic stop on May 16, 2026, after receiving a call from a concerned citizen regarding suspicious activity.

During the investigation, deputies arrested 38-year-old Ai Chon See of Newton. See was charged with:

• Possession of Fentanyl

• Possession of Drug Paraphernalia

• Communicating Threats

• Possession of an Open Container of Alcohol

  
  

Authorities say See is being held at the Alexander County Sheriff’s Office Detention Center under a $25,000 secured bond. His first court appearance was scheduled for May 18 in Alexander County District Court.

Deputies also arrested 37-year-old Steven Gilvaja of Newton during the same stop. Gilvaja was charged with:

• Possession of Fentanyl

• Possession of Drug Paraphernalia

• Simple Assault

• Driving While License Revoked

  
  

Gilvaja is also being held at the Alexander County Sheriff’s Office Detention Center under a $20,000 secured bond. He was scheduled to appear in Alexander County District Court on May 18.
