STATESVILLE, N.C. — As cold weather moves into the region, a warming shelter will be available in Statesville to provide relief for those in need.

The Salvation Army of Iredell County, located at 1361 Caldwell Street, will open a warming shelter beginning Saturday at 11 a.m. The shelter is scheduled to remain open through Tuesday, weather permitting.

The Statesville Police Department has been working in coordination with Lt. McCormick to help facilitate the shelter’s opening and ensure support services are available during the upcoming cold weather.

Police are also asking for community assistance. The department is requesting donations of new blankets to help keep shelter guests warm and comfortable.

Blankets can be dropped off at the Statesville Police Department Headquarters lobby, located at 300 South Tradd Street, between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m., through Friday, January 23.

City officials say community support plays a critical role during severe cold weather and encourage residents who are able to help to consider donating.
