Iredell County is under a heat advisory as a dangerous stretch of extreme heat and humidity continues to impact the region, with “feels like” temperatures climbing well into the triple digits.
According to the National Weather Service, heat index values across Iredell County have reached as high as 105 to 109 degrees, prompting officials to urge residents to take precautions during peak afternoon hours.
A Heat Advisory remains in effect for the region, including Statesville, Mooresville, and surrounding communities, due to the combination of hot temperatures and high humidity that can quickly lead to heat-related illnesses such as heat exhaustion or heat stroke.
Forecasters say actual high temperatures are expected to hover near 100 to 101 degrees, but the humidity will make it feel significantly hotter. Nights will offer only limited relief, with lows remaining in the mid-70s.
Officials are encouraging residents to stay hydrated, limit time outdoors during the hottest part of the day, check on elderly neighbors, and never leave children or pets in vehicles.
The heat is part of a broader regional pattern impacting much of the Carolinas and the Southeast as a strong heat dome keeps high pressure locked over the area.
Relief may begin to arrive early next week as temperatures gradually trend downward, but for now, dangerous heat conditions are expected to continue through the weekend.
